Today our plant is on stage 8.That means the plant’s petals are all falling off the plant and the pistil has gotten bigger. Our tallest blog plant is 18 cm. tall. The cotyledon  have mostly fallen off and some of the true leaves also have crumpled and fallen off.The stems are very thick and more true leaves are still growing. Some of the stems have started to curl up and turn to a darker green. The tallest seed pod so far is about one cm. long and still growing.

Day 25

Filed under: Uncategorized — jmlincoln @ 2:48 pm

Our tallest plant is now 17.5 cm tall. The biggest true leaf is still 4 cm. The cotyledons are still there and look healthy although they are droopy. On some of the flowers all of petals fell off. Some of the stamen are fully in view. The pistils are growing because the seeds are developing. We guess all of the pollinating we have done is helping the seeds develop. To pollinate, we used Q-tips and went from one flower to another one on a different plant. We think that next week the pods will be even bigger and maybe they will open up!:)

One plant is kind of drooping but we staked it up. The tallest plant is about 17 cm. We pollinated the flowers with a QTip.The flower petals are loosing color and are falling off. The pistels are emerging and are beginning to make seed pods. The cotelydons are turning light green and are curling.

Day 18

Filed under: Uncategorized — jmlincoln @ 2:24 pm

On day 18 for our tallest plant, it is 16 centimeters tall. Most of the flowers have budded. If you touch the anthers (anthers are the small, curved things that hold the pollen for the plant ) you can see the yellow pollen on your finger. As you can see we put more stakes in the soil to keep more of the plants standing straight up. The petals have just grown out of their bud state. It is in stage 7 which means it has petals, anthers and the cotyledon is dying. The plant only keeps whatever it needs and gets rid of what it does not need– unlike us. They do not need the cotyledon because it now has its true leaves that can now perform the photosynthesis. The soil is very dark which means it has just the right amount of water.

Day 11

Filed under: Uncategorized — jmlincoln @ 2:26 pm

Our plant is in Stage 5 getting very near Stage 6.  Our plant has also grown to 9 cm. tall, which is about 3 and one half inches.    Four true leaves have sprouted and two more leaves are coming up.  If you look very closely you can see very tiny white bristles all around the stem.

The cotyledon has grown a lot in size in the last couple of days.  Even more true leaves are coming up.  There are also a couple of buds popping out.  Some of the plants’ stems are twisting and we put a stake on the tallest plant.  Some of the plants are very short, but are also in Stage 5. — R.S. and A.K.

Fast Plants Day 7

Filed under: Uncategorized — jmlincoln @ 10:02 am

Today our wisconsin fast plants are in stage four.  They are about 4 to 5cm.  Stage 4 means that their first true leaves are appearing.  These leaves are kind of an oval shape and the cotyledon looks like a heart or like two leaves put together like on a clover. Also, the first true leaves have ridges on them when they are small. These leaves will feed the plant using photosynthesis unlike the cotyledon.  Photosynthesis is when plants use the energy from the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to make food for themselves. As you can see, some of the Blog plants are looking a little droopy. Later today, we will prop them up with a skewer so they won’t be falling over.

Fastplants Day 4

Filed under: Uncategorized — jmlincoln @ 2:16 pm

Today our Wisconsin fastplant is on stage 3, which means the stems are about 1 inch long and the cotyledon (or the food for the plant) are the first leaves. As you can see the dirt is looking pretty moist. Some of the plants still have their protective seed coats on. On Monday the plant will look different.
